Got Fraxed?
What is Fraxel Laser?
Fraxel is a non-invasive, microscopic rolling laser that penetrates your skin to encourage new collagen and elastin growth. Fraxel only targets a fraction of the skin at a time, which is why it’s a fractional skin resurfacing treatment.
What is Fraxel Good for?
Fraxel smooths wrinkles and scars, fades brown spots and hyperpigmentation, and resurfaces your skin tone. Fraxel is one of the more aggressive lasers and helps get rid of pockmark scars, acne scars and wrinkles.
Non-Ablative:
Non-ablative lasers are considered “non-wounding” lasers because they only heat up the tissue beneath your skin to stimulate collagen growth. Fraxel will help fade redness such as rosacea, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation, while helping tighten fine lines. Fraxel, however, can be both non-ablative and ablative.
How Painful is Fraxel Laser?
Fraxel treatment usually starts with 30 minutes of topical numbing cream then the process takes about 25 minutes. Using the numbing cream is beneficial and you will feel a little stinging during the process. Of course, pain tolerance is subjective, some describe it as being stung by bees, even with the numbing cream.
How Long is Your Face Red After Fraxel?
The downtime to non-ablative Fraxel can last from 1-3 days. You should expect redness, throbbing, swelling and sometimes peeling (like a sunburn). The décolletage usually takes a little bit longer to recover, so don’t be alarmed if the process seems slow.
How Many Sessions of Fraxel Do You Need?
With the Fraxel 1550 wavelength one treatment can decrease 50% of the discoloration and wrinkles. Fraxel should be repeated every 4-6 weeks until you see your desired results, then you can revisit every few months to keep up on the process.
